Italian-American born composer, John Blasucci, discovered his passion for music at an early age after growing up in a musically-inclined family. Today he composes and produces music with a strong emphasis on music for film and digital media. The soul of Blasucci’s music reaches deep into his Italian heritage roots, blending his musical heritage of harmony and melody, which evokes an emotional story that serves to elevate the film. Blasucci grew up immersed in music, ranging from watching his grandfather lead his own big band to listening to both his parents play the grand piano at home. He was influenced by his mother’s passionate playing style and his father’s methodical approach. By the age of 17, Blasucci had competed in several classical piano competitions in Chicago, earning three accolades, including two 1st place trophies.
After graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance / jazz studies, Blasucci returned to his first love: composing and producing music.
During this time, Blasucci connected with commercial and orchestral moguls Cliff Colnot and Arnie Roth, where he was hired to write and produce TV commercials for Ameritech and the national food chain Albertsons, and assisted in the music for several movies, including Mattel’s Barbie movies, Barbie Nutcracker, and Barbie Rapunzel Suite movies. Shortly after that he did music and sound design for popular video gaming machines in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2007, Blasucci wrote the theme song for PBS’s “There is a Bridge,” featuring the London Symphony Orchestra.
In 2005, Blasucci joined STYX frontman Dennis DeYoung as a touring keyboardist and continues to tour with DDY to date. He can be seen on AXS TV this fall (2014) premiering the new Dennis DeYoung Concert DVD. In October 2013, Blasucci joined the world-renown Mannheim Steamroller as their lead touring keyboardist/pianist and continues to tour with them to date.
In May of 2014, Blasucci wrote the original score for the short film “Vinyan,” during the Amazing Thailand Film Challenge, which was filmed in six days in Sam Pank Bok, Ho Min Khao, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung, and Khao Yai National Park, Thailand. Working closely with Film Director Mike Stryker (Casting Life Films) via Skype, Blasucci was able to demonstrate his talent and abilities by composing the music that was delivered to him daily via email from Thailand as he worked from his studio in Chicago, Illinois. The short film placed second when it debut in Bangkok.
Blasucci works primarily in his studios in Chicago and Salt Lake City where he exerts command in his studio production environment. With his professional training and talent, Blasucci creates fresh, innovative sound palettes of an entire orchestra as well as intense modern sequences to create a diversity of moods, soundscapes, and emotions.
Throughout his career, Blasucci has also lent his skills as an arranger and producer to other musicians and has recorded alongside legendary musicians. His music can be heard on over 30-records, ranging from Josh Groban, Richard Marx, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Tao Cruz, Peter Cetera, Charlotte Church, Jennifer Hudson, to N’Sync.
